Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 October 2026
This policy explains what data the View Rendered Source browser extension and viewrenderedsource.com collect, why, and what we do with it.
"We" means Peg Leg Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17001723), registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ. We are the data controller. Contact us at [email protected].
The short version
- The free extension works in your browser. The pages you view are not sent to us.
- We only store page source on our servers when you save a Snapshot with Pro.
- If you send Feedback in the extension, or use the contact form on this site, we receive your comment and the name and email you give. We do not send the page you viewed.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.
What the extension does in your browser
To show the raw and rendered source, the extension reads the page in the tab you choose. This needs permission to access websites. The processing happens on your device. Your settings are saved in your browser's extension storage.
The extension creates a random install ID. It doesn't identify you personally. It is sent with requests to our API so we can link a licence and Snapshots to one browser.
What we collect
- Account and licence data (Pro). Your name, email address, licence key, licence expiry date, and the reference IDs from our payment provider, Polar.
- Snapshots (Pro). When you save a Snapshot, we store the page URL, domain, page title, favicon URL, your browser's user agent, your optional note, the date, and the raw and rendered source of the page. Page source can contain personal data if the page you saved showed it. Only save pages you are allowed to save.
- Share links. When you share a Snapshot or a comparison, we create a link with a long random code. Anyone with the link can view the shared source. Your note is not shown. Share pages tell search engines not to index them.
- Checkout. When you start a checkout, we pass your IP address to Polar so it can work out tax.
- Server logs. Our web server and Cloudflare record standard request data, such as IP address, date, page requested, and browser. We use this for security and to fix problems.
- Analytics. viewrenderedsource.com and the extension use Numative to count visits and see which features are used. This doesn't include the content of the pages you view.
- Email. If you email us, we keep the message so we can reply.
Why we use it (legal basis)
- To provide Pro, your Snapshots and share links: performance of a contract.
- Security, logs, fraud prevention, and simple visit counts: legitimate interests.
- Feedback, the website contact form, and a reply: legitimate interests.
- Tax and accounting records: legal obligation.
Who we share it with
- Polar (polar.sh) is our merchant of record. It takes payments, handles tax, and issues licence keys. Polar has its own privacy policy.
- Cloudflare protects and delivers our website and API.
- Our hosting provider stores our database and Snapshots on servers in the EU.
- Numative provides analytics for the website and the extension.
- Google Fonts serves the fonts on our website, so Google receives your IP address when you visit it.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK and EU. When they do, they use legal safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Snapshots and share links stay until you delete them, or until you ask us to delete your data. In exceptional cases we may remove them sooner. If you delete a Snapshot, any share link that uses it stops working.
- Account and licence data stays while you have a licence, and for as long as we need it for tax and accounting after that (usually 6 years in the UK).
- Server logs are kept for a short time and then deleted.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We only use data to provide the features of the extension. We don't sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to decide credit.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask to see, correct, delete or export your data, and you can object to or restrict how we use it. Email [email protected]. If you are not happy with our reply, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or to your local data protection authority.
Children
View Rendered Source is a tool for web professionals. It is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If the change is important, we will tell Pro users by email.
